Final Project: women in animation movies

Screenshot film
My final project is a short film about the female characters in Disney movies. There are a lot of sexist jokes that are made in these movies and I believe that this has to change. These movies help construct the language of young kids who are watching these movies and because they here this language repeated in these movies as well as in real life they might take them for the truth.

There are a lot of expressions about women that tells the female characters to be silent, passive and just to behave like a lady. If there's a main female character, most of the time it's a princess. We have to tell more diverse stories about women. Look for example at the film Ratatouille;  a rat can be a cook, but a girl can only be a wife? It says a lot about our society that even a rat has more agency than most female characters.

The last few Pixar and Disney movies look like they have more 'feminist characters' in them, but if you look closely you can see that the progress is still with baby steps. It's time we make more people aware of how we talk about women has to change and that this is a big problem in our society that is rooted deep within. That's also why called it 'The Joke's on you!'. To change this problem of how we treat women has to start with yourself.
