I want to base my final project on Melinda Gates because she is a very important philanthropist. Not only is she married to Bill Gates, she took it upon herself to be successful and make a difference on her own. She has something called the “Giving Pledge” where billionaire philanthropists pledge to give over 50 percent of their wealth to organizations. A Committee of directors decides where the money would best be used.
When I saw an episode of “60 minutes” where Melinda Gates explained her organizing of these pledges, I became very interested in her. I thought she would be a good person to base my final project on because she also has very significant campaigns that help women. For example, Family Planning, a part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, pledges to bring access to high quality contraceptive supplies and services to over 120 million women and girls in the poorest countries by 2020.
She uses social media to increase awareness of her charities as well. She utilizes websites, facebook, and twitter to spread her good will. In turn, her good will creates others to want to be more charitable. I am not completely sure how my final presentation will go, I want to think about it further. But, I do know that these are some of the sources I am going to use.
