My
semester project will be based upon black women in media. I will focus on the stereo typical opinions,
roles, expectations and beliefs that are placed on the black feminine culture
in society. I will address the ways in
which media and technology today shapes the opinion of the black feminine
culture.
I will tackle this subject matter by showing the power
that media possess and the ways in which the owners and the media makers have
the ability to control the audience by what they chose to deliver. Media in today’s world controls what is
conveyed by the public, thus it has the ability to tell a story, which could be
either good or bad. This in turn has the
ability to make or break the subject matter.
My job with this project will be to show how use a
few blogs and websites, to also get their opinions on how they see black women in
media and how they are affected by it, as well as what they see for black women in
media in the future.
Currently my project is a work
in progress, I am still cultivating my ideas. My final project will be written,
sort of like an article, with many pictures, and videos to support my ideas. My project is about black females and the way we are
portrayed in media. I am making this
because as a black female this is a topic matters to me. It is a topic that has always peaked my
interest. I am making this for myself,
and for all black females in general.
People like my 12 year old daughter, who cannot seem to identify their self
in today’s media, which is primarily centered on mainly one race. My intent is to
do this project as a written assignment, strictly because it how I feel
comfortable in explaining things.
Explaining the way I see things and my biases that are imposed on
society today. Once I have completed all
of my interviews and research I will post my project to my blog as well as other
websites. This will fit into my
portfolio as research, and being a black woman who relies on media, it will be
a learning experience which I will rely on as time go on. This will grow and progress as I learn about
media and its effect on the black female culture, and hopefully inspire others to take a step back and look at the world around them.
Work Cited:
I think it is really cool that you will be conducting interviews and that you have your 12 year old daughter in mind. I think it might be helpful for you to narrow in and maybe focus on the ways black feminine culture is shaped and represented for girls that are around your daughter's age.
ReplyDeleteWhat TV shows or movies do you remember watching when you were her age?
I remember growing up that the TV shows and movies I had almost exclusively all white characters. For some TV shows and movies there would be the one token black character, and rarely a token Asian character.
