A sample of some of my professional work. |
I consume at least three different forms of media every day.
Print media, for magazines, newspapers or pieces of text required as reading
for school, I watch (or rather listen) to TV news in the morning as I’m getting
ready for work, and then throughout the day I’m checking social media outlets
such as twitter and Facebook on my mobile.
I also create media every day as well. As an Instructional
Designer at LaGuardia Community College and Community Manager for the Making Connections National Resource Center, part of my duties included updating websites and creating graphics that accompany new announcements. You can see some of this work at MCNRC.org if you’re interested. In
addition to that I also designed a few websites using WordPress, such as the Catalyst for Learning resource site, which was
born out of the Connect to Learning Project run by the Making Connections
National Resource Center that I co-led.

As an artist I am always drawing or sketching ideas and
designs as they come to me. Sometimes a sketch from the margins of my page can
inspire me to do a full illustration. I’m also actively sharing my artwork on social
media platforms. While I no longer maintain an active DeviantArt profile, I do share
art that I’m working on via instagram.
I also have a personal website
that hosts some media work, but it’s in need of some updating.
A lot of who I am is measured against media examples. I’m
always looking to see what artists are posting and making so that I can enhance
my own practice and get better at what I do. Social media has made that process
so much easier than it would have been say, 20 years ago. And I don’t think I’m
alone in this regard. Just as I’m measuring my artistic and cultural
contribution to the world, many others probably do the same within their own
fields.

Creating media is an essential part of my life and identity.
As a media artist in the emerging media program here at Hunter I’m in a
constant loop of production. Social media is used as a way to make that loop or
process transparent and have those interested, take the journey alongside me,
watching as I progress artistically and professionally.
